Description

The Torah, Bible of the Jews, has a fresh and powerful newcomer. Torah translations are guided by a variety of approaches, and a great deal of debate occurs over which most effectively communicates. Most translations, however, suffer distortions produced by author biases and personal theology. Rather than hide translation decisions, the Gutnick edition clearly demarcates where it has borrowed interpretations going to the length of indicating those points with parentheses. The result is an honest and unswerving effort that also affords the reader outstanding readability and an enjoyable, engaging encounter with the text. Features a leather-style cover with reinforced binding. Also Features:Classic Commentary drawn from Rabbinic commentators, Midrash and Talmud.Full Hebrew text of Rashi and Onkelos in crisp, clear type.Hundreds of Chassidic insights into Chumash from the Lubavitcher RebbeFull Text of Haftaros According to All Customs (Ashkenazic, Chabad & Sefardic)

A refreshing look into the Chumash. Not only does it provide a concise translation according to Rashi, but it also has boatloads of gems in the commentary section as well as all the features of a normal Hebrew Chumash (the full version of Rashi's commentary appears in Hebrew on every page like in a regular Chumash). Includes titles for the name of the Parshas HaShavua, so there's no need for a special calendar to tell you the portion as long as you know the name of the Parsha of that week.Something I really like about it is that it does not translate the names of characters and places according to the usual Christian-English rendering (Abraham, Moses, Bethel) but transliterates the names as they sound in Hebrew. (Avraham, Moshe, Beis-Ail.)Haftaros appear in the back listed according to the Parshas HaShavua, and it includes notes for when Sephardim, Ashkenazim, and Chabad Chassidim start and stop the Haftarah portions.I would recommend anyone getting a Gutnick Chumash, even over a Stone Chumash or Koren Chumash. It's too bad Kol Menachem doesn't publish a Tanach - I'd totally shun my ArtScroll Stone one if they did!
