The builders of my house forgot to install the anti-rotation ring when putting together the shower, so eventually the original cartridge broke and the water would not shut off. This replacement valve came with the ring. After figuring out how to dismantle the rough-in assembly, it was easy to install this cartridge and put the ring on. The shower now works as expected. The cartridge gears are plastic and are pretty flimsy; it's absolutely necessary to install the rotation limiter ring, but once it's installed and working it's great.
