Description

Offering the protection you need to stay out of the elements, the Rab Trailhead Bivi is a stripped-down, waterproof sleeping bag cover that will keep the rain off your head. Featuring an open-face style, the Trailhead is less constricting than other bivis, letting you rest easy at camp. A zippered mesh vent keeps consistent airflow into and out of the bag overnight, so you don’t wake up to a puddle of condensation soaking through your sleeping bag. Best of all, it weighs well under a pound and packs down to be just larger than a typical smartphone. With the Trailhead Bivi, getting from A to B is easier than ever before.

Features

    Nylon

Light Is Fast | Made for ultralight adventuring, the Trailhead can be used as a standalone bivi or for added waterproof protection when sleeping under a tarp.

Keep The Rain Out | Tough-as-nails waterproof nylon ripstop materials stop driving rain from soaking your sleep system.

Open-Face Design | The simplified snap-button closure is non-restrictive, letting you breathe easy.

Built-In Ventilation | A single, zippered vent promotes airflow throughout the night, eliminating condensation and helping you cool off on warm nights out.

Easy To Pack | Weighing in at just over 14 ounces and packing down to 7” x 5”, this sleeping bag cover falls into the ‘take it on every trip’ category.

I prefer the sensation of camping under the open sky or without walls instead of a tent, whether that’s sleeping in a sleeping bag on a tarp, on a cot, in a hammock, or under a tarp. I went camping and had originally planned to use a hammock, but I switched to this due to the weather forecast.Set up was a breeze, I laid down a tarp, plopped this bivvy sack on it, and stuffed a sleeping pad in it, then when I got ready for bed, I stuffed a wool blanket into it. Breaking down camp was also a breeze, just fold the bivvy over twice, roll it up, and stuff it in the stuff sack. Then do the same for the tarp and roll up the wool blanket into a bedroll. The bivvy sack honestly did not feel claustrophobic at all, it felt like being in a sleeping bag, and it gave me the sensation of exposure I appreciate in the woods, but with the environmental protection of having a shelter. I didn’t mind the snap closures or mouth entry, but, if that’s an issue, you might spring for one of the higher end Rab bivvies with a zipper. It was like climbing into the mouth of a sleeping bag, which I don’t mind. What’s more, even with relatively inadequate insulation between me and the ground on a very marginal spot, I had some of the best sleep I’ve had in the woods on the ground in years (probably a combination of factors, but the bivvy definitely handled the environment with aplomb). I woke up early because of coldness, but I’ve bought a better sleeping pad since then and am working on different options for heat.
