At first, I freaked out at the speedo's tightness and difficulty to put on, but after looking it up, discovered that this is common for all new sports briefs. I'm not a competitive swimmer so my only comparison was with a more "fashion" pair of briefs I bought that was extremely elastic. As others have mentioned, water and time will give this pair some stretchiness, and the inherent tightness is for performance.As for looks, these briefs are perfect if you're worried about appearance and modesty (the fashion pair I mentioned earlier was the exact opposite -- skimpy and in-your-face). This pair of speedos looks and feels more athletic and less showy. The sides are thick and not too revealing, and the patterns are cool but subtle. I wear it to the gym each time I jump in the pool and I feel perfectly at ease in my own skin. I'm planning to take this out to Long Beach too, it's so nice (for European readers, we Americans aren't as big on the briefs, which is why I dedicated half the review on this).
