Description

BJC Speaker Cable, made with 4S11 and Welded Locking Banana Plugs, bi-wire terminations At Blue Jeans Cable, we were never happy with the conventional methods of attaching speaker cable to banana plugs. Setscrews are fine, but lack pull strength; compression connections are never as strong as they look like they're going to be; and solder, on large high-mass connectors, is slow going and tends to cause a lot of insulation meltback. Our solution: ultrasonic welding. Our Sonobond Ultrasonic Welder (made in West Chester, PA) welds the copper wire to the brass banana plug body without the excessive heat associated with conventional welding, fusing copper to brass in a tight, strong, low-resistance, reliable connection. Bi-Wired Terminations: This cable is made with two banana plugs on the amplifier end and four on the speaker end, for use in bi-wired setups. If you're looking for a cable with just two bananas on each end, we offer those as well -- search our listings. Ultrasonic-Welded Locking Bananas: a Blue Jeans Cable exclusive feature The Plug This is our locking banana plug, disassembled. Notice anything? There's no attachment mechanism for the wire -- no set screws, no clamps, nothing but a channel for the wire to sit in. The Welder This is one of our Sonobond Ultrasonic Welders, in our Seattle shop. Unlike heat-based methods of welding, it drives a large amount of ultrasonic vibration into the junction between the wire and the plug, fusing them together. The Weld Here's a plug body after welding. The surface structure of the wire breaks down during welding, allowing dissimilar metals to fuse. The resulting weld has extremely low contact resistance and high pull strength. The "Locking" Feature The outer collar of the banana plug is threaded. It should inserted into the binding post with the collar "backed off" from the plug end (top image). When the plug is in the binding post, simply turn the locking collar clockwise (bottom image) and it pushes a central pin forward, expanding the splines for a firm engagement in the post.

Features

Bi-wired configuration two connectors at the amp end, four at the speaker end.

The best terminations in the industry our unique ultrasonic welding process fuses the copper wire directly to the brass banana or spade connector, with no intervening metal, no compression sleeves or setscrews.

Star quad cable configuration reduces EM field around the cable for reduced interaction with other system cabling

Assembled in Seattle, Washington at our own cable shop, using BJC's proprietary connectors and Sonobond welder.

Our locking banana plugs give the best possible engagement between plug and binding post; advancing the locking collar tightens the splines to the inside of the post.

Well constructed, custom lengths and components if ordered directly from BJC's site. Name brand, high quality components. I especially like the connectors. If you want to try bi-wiring, I can't think of a better company than Blue Jeans Cable.I looked at a lot of bi-wire cables from a number of companies before buying these. Some are 'prettier' and also use the Canare 4S11 wire I was looking for but in the end, it was the published specs and ultrasonically welded (not soldered) connections and expandable/locking banana plugs that sold me.All things considered, this and other BJC products are likely to result in long term reliability and best possible performance. I'd also *highly* recommend their video cables especially for the sometimes problematic world of custom PC's used for video editing, gaming and 4k video playback. The connector collars can be unscrewed and lowered which completely exposes the welded connections. You can see for yourself how the wire is welded to the connector. This will also make cleaning quick and easy. For more configuration options, check out BJC's website. If you have a specific need (custom lengths, connector options, etc.), chances are they'll be able to provide. This is a company that seems to have engineers on staff or is otherwise heavily influenced by engineers, not marketers. This is a good thing for the customer. Their customer service is second to none in my experience. I've emailed several times and always received solid information and guidance. Some of their cables even come with certs.Their website is worth browsing if only to take advantage of the information they provide. It's an educational resource I'd recommend to everyone but especially for those that are new to the world of audio/ video hardware and ready to spend.Side note: focus on measured specs when reading reviews of all audio products, not just interconnects. When reviews contain a lot of superlatives, this is a red flag. Further, when reading subjective reviews of audio recordings and the hardware used to listen to audio, read very skeptically. If the writer is a middle aged man, it may be that he can't hear much beyond about 10kHz. Men tend to lose their ability to hear high frequencies from a fairly young age. The ~20Hz to ~20kHz range most of us are born with doesn't last long. The 'sparkling highs' a reviewer mentions may mean up to ~8kHz given that this is the limit of what he can hear. Tinnitus can get in the way too, a very common and maddening affliction.Examples of listening experience superlatives for audio products are below. These were pulled from a quick google search. All red flags. Use caution when exploring the audiophile world. It's definitely a rabbit hole that has claimed more than it's share of victims.super fast bassorganic palpabilitytextured but smooth trebledetailed bassairy midrangeharmonic texturesrefined soundstage and insightincredibly lush liquiditysense of immediacyfluidity and dynamic flaircoherent and well-structuredquietness around instrumentssophisticated temperament
