Description

Depending on your engine and type of vehicle, the exhaust can either be a set of pipes or it can be a cast iron assembly. Essentially the exhaust takes the burned exhaust gases from the engine's cylinders and ejects the gas through the exhaust system and out through the car's tail pipe. The exhaust gasket seals the surface of the exhaust to the surface of the cylinder head, preventing leaks in the system. Over time, the constant expansion and contraction of the components (caused by constant heating and cooling in the engine), may cause the gasket to leak. These leaks can be hazardous as hot exhaust gases escape and can damage other components in the engine compartment. A leaky exhaust gasket can also impact engine performance. So replace your gasket and regain back lost performance. I have a CLK350 2006..., over the past six months or so the car began behaving erratically and throwing odd and unexplainable codes. When deleted the codes sometimes came back immediately other times never came back at all. The car does have 168K on it but otherwise runs just fine. Digging into some background and with research on my part. I discovered that a NEW INTAKE often resolved the issue immediately and permanently. Frankly the endevour is quite doable by the average guy or gal that has enough courage to change their own oil and filters. Male and female (6 point sockets work just fine as do ratchets and boxed end wrenches), a torque wrench is advised but not necessarily and absolute requirement (just be easy on the bolts when tightening, snug is likely perfect with crisscross tightening pattern). UPON CAREFUL REMOVAL of the old intake manifold and clear of the car..., a gental Shake of the old manifold made sounds similar to a loose can of MARBLES..., quite shocking...!!?!?!? Clearly a case of extraordinarily loose and broken parts, indeed. I carefully stuffed each intake valve for each cylinder with loose paper towels to prevent anything from getting into my engine. I also took the opportunity to clean each port with carborator cleaner (that was a painfully slow process but well worth it). Installation was the revers of the removal..., except for the positioning of the intake manifold gasket..., getting that to actually stay in place was a bit agrivating at first. With some patients I finally accomplished the task and ensured that everything lined-up BEFORE the tightening sequence. Once the new intake was torqued down the rest of the fuel rail and fuel injector clips (install new "O" ring seals on the injectors cheap cost like $1 each time six. Double check your work and remove all tools (hide extra hardware..., NO don't do that, find its proper place and install it.) THEN BRAVLY BUT CONFIDENTLY turn the ignition key to start the engine. The engine will buck and smoke for the carburator cleaner but quickly recovers and idles on its own. If it continues to run rough shut OFF THE IGNITION for a minute or so and restart it again. Mine ran smoother and better than I can personally ever remember..., the car accelerated like never before, it truly felt like driving a totally NEW CAR. Do diligence research will conclude that this is the best and fastest way to better performance and longevity of you car...!!! Bar none. Best wish and best of luck in your repairs. It's not a hard job..., but it does offer a great sence of accomplishment in the end. Good luck...
